The Bishop of Chelmsford, the Rt Revd Dr Guli Francis-Dehqani has announced that the next Area Dean of Harlow will be the Revd Darren McIndoe.
Darren is Priest in Charge at St Stephen Tye Green and St Andrew Netteswell where he has served since 2019 and will continue to serve when he becomes Area Dean. He also represents the Harlow Deanery on Chelmsford Diocesan Synod and is coordinator of the Chelmsford Diocese Estate Churches Network. Darren’s appointment follows the announcement that the Revd Martin Harris is to retire. Martin has been Area Dean of Harlow since 2009.
Darren will be commissioned as Area Dean in the New Year.
Commenting on the announcement, Bishop Guli said:
“I’m very grateful to Darren McIndoe for agreeing to become the next Area Dean for Harlow. This is an important role for the parishes and worshipping communities of the Harlow Deanery to which Darren will bring great energy, skills and experience. I also want to pay tribute to Martin Harris and to thank him for all he has done for the Harlow Deanery in nearly fifteen years of service as their Area Dean.”
The Bishop of Barking, the Rt Revd Lynne Cullens said:
“The parishes and worshipping communities of the Harlow Deanery will benefit greatly from having Darren as their new Area Dean. I’m delighted that he has been appointed to the role. I know that many people will join me in giving thanks for all that Martin Harris has contributed as a committed servant of the Harlow Deanery over many years. I also want to thank the Revds Christian Okeke, Richard Attew and Lynn Hurry for taking on the roles of Assistant Area Deans and for working with Darren to support the broader work of the Deanery.”
Commenting on his appointment, the Revd Darren McIndoe said:
"Having lived in Harlow for the last four years, it gives me great joy to now be serving my colleagues and the Harlow Deanery. This is a time of immense change in the town with many developments being built, it is an exciting time to support our churches in Harlow as we seek to play our part in our growing communities."
