Season of Creation 2025: Peace with Creation

Marking the season of creation 2025 in the Diocese of Chelmsford.

The Season of Creation, between 1 September and 4 October, is a time to renew our relationship with our Creator and all creation.

Peace with Creation

This year's theme draws on the Biblical text, Isaiah 32:14-18. The prophet Isaiah pictured the desolated Creation without peace because of the lack of justice and the broken relationship between God and humankind. This description of devastated cities and wastelands eloquently stresses the fact that human destructive behaviours have a negative impact on the Earth.

Find out more about this year's theme for the Season of Creation and the resources available for individuals and churches on the Season of Creation website.

Peace with Creation Prayer

Please see below the Season of Creation 2025 Prayer.

Creator of all,
we praise you for the gift of life
and for the faith that unites us in care for our common home.
We confess how estranged we have become—
from one another, from your Creation, and from our truest selves.
We acknowledge that our greed and destructive impulses
have fractured our relationships with you, with others, and with the Earth.
Fertile fields have become barren,
forests lie desolate,
oceans and rivers are polluted.
Thriving communities have become places of suffering,
and the earth cries out.

Beloved Christ,
who spoke “Shalom” to frightened hearts,
stir us to compassionate action.
Inspire us to work for the end of conflict,
and for the full restoration of broken relationships—
with you, with the ecumenical community,
with the human family,
and with all Creation.
Prince of Peace,
through your wounds, teach us to stand in solidarity
with the woundedness of others,
of creation, and of the world.
Through your resurrection,
make us people of hope—
with a vision of swords turned into ploughshares
and tears transformed into joy.
May we come together as one family,
to labor for your peace—
a shalom where all your people
may dwell in safety,
and rest in quiet places.
Amen.

There are many ways to celebrate this year's Season of Creation. Please see below for the multiple events hosted throughout the diocese.

  • Creation Day - September 1st

Churches are being encouraged to celebrate this day this year, in advance of its likely designation as a world-wide ecumenical feast day.

More information can be found here.

  • Days of Creation Walk - September 7th at 2.30pm

All Saints Church, Springfield are hosting a 'Days of Creation' walk to celebrate Season of Creation 2025. Every year, they embrark a 2-mile "Days of Creation" walk through local countryside during the Season of Creation. They stop along the way to read and pray, focusing on the seven days of Creation. Further details on the walk can be found here.

This year the team are very kindly sharing copies of the booklets they use on the walk in case other churches want to use these booklets during the Season. Some of the text would need changing to use in your church - it's clearly marked. View the booklet here.

  • St Francis Day Pilgrimage - October 4th 10am to about 2pm

This will be a walk of a few miles into Chelmsford along the River Chelmer, suitable for all ages, particularly those young at heart! There will be stopping off points where you can join or leave, and time for snacks and lunch. We'll be using St Francis's Canticle of the Creatures to remind ourselves and raise awareness of the beauty of God's suffering Creation and the need for us to care for it. We're asking everyone to come as a different part of creation - a creature, plant, the sun, the moon, a star etc.
