Working hours: full-time, 35 hours per week.  Part-time may be considered, or alternative working arrangements.  There is an opportunity for hybrid working.

Salary: £37,500 - £42,000 per annum

This is an excellent role where you can make a real difference to local communities and serve the church in the Diocese of Chelmsford. supporting our parishes who are responsible for looking after church buildings.

The Historic Church Buildings Support Officer will be responsible for supporting PCCs and others within the Diocese to care for their historic church buildings, through appropriate maintenance, management and repair.  A key element of the role will be identifying and supporting applications to funding streams to support works on church buildings, their contents and churchyards. 

The Diocese is vibrant and growing with 470 parishes and 144 schools.  The Diocese has 576 church buildings. Of these 401 are listed (173 Grade 1, 145 Grade II*, 83 Grade II) and include a number of architecturally and historically significant buildings.

This role will work closely with the service delivery team who are skilled and have expertise in historic and church buildings and with Historic England, who currently part fund this role. 

We are ideally looking for someone with a background in heritage management, conservation of historic buildings or architecture.  Knowledge of church buildings and their maintenance is essential, as is experience of funding and grant applications

Excellent and innovative problem solving and experience working with building owners, volunteers and wider community groups would be an advantage.
