Moving House
The first appointment grant is currently £2,867. Click on the link below to download the ‘new starters’ form to enable the payment.
Please return the ‘New Starters’ form as soon as you can. The payment is made en bloc once all the forms have been received.
As soon as The Clergy Moves Team receive your title post confirmation letter from the Bishop, they send out paperwork to you which includes (where appropriate) removals procedures. This tells you the removal companies that we use, and that you need to contact them directly to arrange quotes (Please do not contact other removal companies!)
Once you have a confirmed move date then the Team will process a resettlement and decoration grant. Please note that you only receive a £500 decoration grant by agreement at the ingoing works meeting for existing diocesan properties. (You will not receive it for rentals or new builds).
Stipends
The stipend for those in stipendiary ministry is currently £28,670.
Stipends will be paid from 2nd July (clergy payroll is paid on the last working day of each month).
The Licensing as Lay Workers, and the orientation and induction days.
The Briefing Day will be 28th June 2026, initially at the Diocesan Office and then at Bishopscourt, where the licensing of lay workers will take place.
The arrangements for the ordination retreat and ordination services
The Ordination of Deacons takes place at Chelmsford Cathedral on the second Sunday in September. Please come prepared to robe in cassock, surplice, and white stole (or black scarf if preferred). We have asked that you robe as suggested to express something of our collegiality and unity.
This is subject to minor changes and will be sent to you in its final form in the spring before your ordination.
The ordinations to the priesthood take place on the nearest Saturday to Michaelmas (usually the last Saturday in September, sometimes the first Saturday in October) and are held in parish churches across each Episcopal Area.
