Transforming the communities of Essex & East London through Christ’s presence

Welcome Charley

In July our Diocesan Youth Advisor, Dot Salmon, began her maternity leave. We wish Dot well as she prepares to welcome her new arrival and are pleased to announce that Charley Day will be joining the Mustard Seed Team to cover Dot’s maternity leave.

Charley was previously Youth and Schools Worker, for The Tenpenny Villages Benefice – which comprises the parishes of St Andrew's, Alresford, St Anne and St Laurence, Elmstead and St Mary Magdalen, Thorrington in St Osyths Deanery.

In her new role Charley will support our parishes and worshipping communities with the recruitment and training of paid and volunteer youth workers as well as overseeing the diocesan youth synod, the Living Way - our youth-led discipleship group for young people shaped around the concept of a Rule of Life; and the Growing Young Leaders programme which offers young people the opportunity to spend six months serving in leadership in their local worshipping community.

The Mustard Seed Team was launched in July and joins up all children, youth and families advisory work across our diocese. Charley will be working alongside Ann Sharp our Early Years Adviser, Emma Anderton our Children, Families and Youth Missioner (Barking Area) and Tara Russell our Project Worker for Ministry with Children, young people and Families to help support our parishes and worshipping communities in all areas of ministry with those aged 0-25.

Welcoming Charley’s appointment Tara said: “We warmly welcome Charley to the Mustard Seed Team. Ann, Emma and I are looking forward to working closely with her as we support our parishes and worshipping communities in all aspects of children’s, youth and families ministry.”

Revd Rob Merchant, Dean of Mission, Ministry and Education added: “I’m delighted that Charley is joining the Mustard Seed Team. Charley’s previous experience as Youth and Schools Worker in the Tenpenny Benefice means she is a familiar face to some in our diocese. She is a great asset to the team to cover Dot’s maternity leave.”

Commenting on her new role Charley said: “I’m really excited to be taking on this new role as part of the recently launched Mustard Seed Team. I’m looking forward to getting to know people across our wonderfully diverse diocese and supporting young people with their faith journey and discipleship.”

Charley will begin her role on 1 September.
