Bishop Lynne and members of the Barking Area Team join walk to support housing charity, Crisis

6 October 2025

In 1967 Bill Shearman, Iain Macleod - the Chancellor of the Exchequer, and Nick Beacock - a curate at St Barnabas’ Church in East Ham, organised a rally with a mission to end homelessness in London. That event gave birth to the charity that we know today as Crisis.

Barking Area Team and Crisis

58 years on - the fight to eradicate homelessness continues. This October, for the second consecutive year, the London Volunteer Group are following in the footsteps of Bill Shearman, Nick Beacock and Iain Macleod to raise funds for Crisis.

Bishop Lynne and members of the Barking Area Team will be joining group members on this year's walk.

Commenting on the sponsored walk, Bishop Guli said:

“Please do join me in cheering on Bishop Lynne, members of the Barking Area Team and the London Volunteering Group in their walk to support the homelessness charity, Crisis.

“Homelessness is at record high levels across our country, due to rising living costs, rent increases and a shortage of affordable housing.

“I was pleased that we were able to raise funds for the Christian homelessness charity, Housing Justice, through the Bishop's Lent Appeal this year, and by sponsoring this walk, you can help Crisis in their work to help people out of homelessness and their campaign for the changes needed to solve it altogether.”
