All Saints’ Church in Springfield, Chelmsford is home to the Sunday Special Service which began because the church identified a need for an alternative service for young families.

Over the last 14 years, Sunday Special has proved popular and has provided a church service for local families which includes modern worship songs with music on guitars, keyboard and drums.

Sunday Special Co-ordinator, Carol Leverett, explains more about the service and how it has developed over time:

“Our Sunday Special is a service for young families and the young at heart, it has grown from small beginnings to the vibrant community we see today with a mix of all ages. The congregation stays connected with a weekly email and the use of a WhatsApp group.

“Often, we are blessed with between 40 and 60 people attending each week.

“Our services are projected onto a big screen and a familiar pattern of worship followed. On the first Sunday of every month and at Church Festivals we join with the “traditional” church community to worship together in the main church. For the rest of the month we meet in the church hall, with our own, informal, communion service on the third Sunday.

“Each week in the church hall we provide an activity for the children to enhance the message of the week, whilst the adults and teenagers are given a suitable challenge to discuss in groups - everyone is engaged!

“The overriding atmosphere is one of joy, and we end on a shaker song with everyone singing, dancing and waving their shakers! If you are in the area, do drop in and join us!”
