The Revd Tom Warmington appointed as the Area Dean of Dunmow and Stansted

26 June 2023

Bishop Guli has announced that the next Area Dean of Dunmow and Stansted will be the Revd Tom Warmington.

Tom is Priest in Charge at St Mary the Virgin, Great Dunmow and St Andrew, Barnston where he has served since 2021.

Speaking about the appointment, Bishop Guli said:

“The role of Area Dean is a crucial part of our diocesan life, helping to facilitate good communication and relationships between our parishes and the wider diocese. Tom will bring great wisdom and skill to the role and I’m very grateful that he has agreed to take it on in addition to his parish ministry. Please do join me in praying for Tom and the Dunmow and Stansted Deanery at this time.”

The Stansted and Dunmow Deanery is within the Colchester Episcopal Area. Commenting on the appointments, the Bishop of Colchester,  Bishop Roger said:

“It is good news for the parishes and worshipping communities of the Dunmow and Stansted Deanery that Tom has agreed to take on this role. Much of the role of Area Dean is about good communication for which Tom is particularly well equipped, having worked in television and media before he trained for ordination. I look forward to welcoming him onto the Colchester Area Team. I’m also grateful to the clergy in the deanery who are working well together - and are seeking to ensure that some of the work is shared out so that it is not too burdensome for any one individual.”

The Revd Tom Warmington welcomed his appointment saying:

"Over the last two years I have enjoyed getting to know this deanery better and seeing the way God is at work in our communities. I look forward to working with all God's people so that we can continue to develop good partnerships across this area and proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ across our parishes."

Tom will start his ministry as Area Dean of Dunmow and Stansted in July.
